Here are some of my favorite fanvids that, for one reason or another, I constantly find myself watching over and over again.
Gladiator
Title: My Happy Ending
Review: What an incredible examination of the story between Commodus and Maximus. The spot-on editing and fantastic story-telling
make this the best Gladiator vid I've seen yet.
Kill Bill
Title: Sakura
Vidder: Azonia
Review: This is a really fun vid showing one of the best fights of Kill Bill 1. The effects really emphasize the beats of the great
song without every being overused.
Leon
Title: Smooth Criminal
Vidder: Di
Review: While this is easily the best Leon vid I've seen, it's also one of the best fanvids period. The song perfectly captures the
essence of being Leon and the great editing just further emphasizes it.
Lord of the Rings
Title: The Slave in Me
Vidder: Muse
Review: This is one of my favorite LOTR videos; I love how the vid really shows the damage that the ring has caused Frodo and the depths that
he reached because of it. The video works even better because of the fantastic song choice as well.
Lost
Title: They
Vidder: Meghan
Review: First of all, Lost is one of the greatest shows ever to grace television. One of the reasons why the show is so good is because even
though the main cast consists of about 10 different characters with different backstories, each has a common thread running through them - regret. Meghan somehow
managed to put all of their stories together into an incredibly cohesive story with fantastic editing and a perfect song. The only downside of the video is that
it eventually ends.
Matrix
Title: All You Wanted
Vidder: Rosemerry
Review: I give this video enormous credit because: 1. I'm not a big fan of Michelle Branch and 2. I pretty much didn't like any Michelle Branch
song before this. But from the first 15 seconds of this video you can see immediately where the video is going and what a fantastic idea it is to take it there. I've now
seen the video countless times and have grown a soft spot for this particular song, all thanks to the great video.
Misc
Title: Revenge
Vidder: AbsoluteDestiny
Review: This video is just incredible. The vid uses 7 different female revenge plots from exploitation films of the past 30 years and puts them together into an incredible package. I'm still amazed at how AbsoluteDestiny put all seven stories together so cohesively, with a clear narrative going throughout. Of course, this being a revenge video, don't expect any censoring as there is some graphic violence and brief nudity.
Star Wars
Title: Whisper
Vidder: Azonia
Review: I really love this vid. The editing is perfect throughout the song and the song itself captures the struggle going on between Luke
and his father and between Vader and himself.
X-Men
Title: My Baby's in Love with Eddie Vedder
Vidder: Taselby and Killa
Review: This is so far my favorite X-Men video around. The song choice is excellent (extra points for picking a favorite artist of mine, Wierd Al) and the vid
tells a great story that weaves in and out of both films seamlessly. It is funny, clever, and very well edited.
